It can be difficult and can take a long time for a victim of identity theft to realize that they have become a victim. The longer the theft goes unnoticed, the longer the thief is able to continue fraudulently using your information. However, when you have the right tools, you can keep track of your financial activity and be better able to tell if someone is attempting to utilize your information for fraud. One of the best tools your in your arsenal?

Your credit report. Some people are not sure how to read their credit report in the first place, but this list of tips should give you a good place to start.

Address and Employment

Not everyone is going to be able to spell your street address properly, so don’t get too panicked if you notice a small typo on there. However, if your address has recently been changed, or your place of employment has been changed – and you haven’t moved or changed jobs – then you’ll need to look into the situation.

Inquiries

An inquiry into your credit report is someone – either yourself or a financial institution – asking for your credit information. Car dealers will do this when setting up financing, credit card companies will do the same when you’ve applied for a new card, and your employer may check on your credit from time to time. If you notice anyone making an inquiry that you haven’t before or that seems out of place, don’t hesitate to investigate it.

Inactive and Active Accounts

Inactive accounts will be listed on your credit report. These should, of course, be inactive. But if you notice recent activity, there might be something fishy going on. Be sure to double check the list of your active accounts as well. If you find any accounts on there that you did not know you had, you’ll want to notify someone immediately.

Public Records & Information

There will also be a list of your public records. These records include things like foreclosures, evictions, liens, repossessions, et cetera. And there is also the list of information, which includes past-due bills and other items sent to collections. Anything out of the ordinary here should immediately be reported.

What to do when you find something out of place on your credit report? Notify the company immediately that something is wrong and that your identity may have been stolen. You’ll also want to alert the credit bureau with the information on file, and begin methodically going through and placing a fraud alert on your credit reports. Then close the accounts that have been thieved and contact the police.

Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time. We cannot stop it but we can do everything in our power to prevent it from happening and to keep our information secure. Monitoring your credit file is just one method available to you as a method of identity theft protection.

To learn about many of the other methods we recommend you visit here and watch the video.

A new type of identity theft protection product is now available and the timing couldn’t be better.

With the courts ruling the setting up of fraud alerts by Lifelock to be illegal, people are looking for the best ways of setting up their own and Identity Theft Deterrent fills that gap.

It shows in a step by step guide the exact steps you take with each of the 3 credit bureaus to set up your own fraud alerts. The courts rule you can set up your own alerts, you just can’t employ someone else to do it on your behalf.

Identity Theft Deterrent includes the toll free number to ring, what the automated message will say and which digit to press in response. It makes it child’s play and takes about 2 minutes in total.

You will also find in the package a free computer scan to make sure you haven’t been hacked. A report about Adware and its invasive activities and plenty more.

Check out Identity Theft Deterrent.

Identity Theft Deterrent comes with a white paper that lists in an easy to follow system the exact steps you take to place your fraud alerts.

It comes with everything required and even includes numbers to ring, the numbers to press during the automated process etc.

That’s just one part of Identity Theft Deterrent though. The next part is a detailed guide showing simple steps we can all take to prevent us becoming a victim of identity theft in the first place.

There are many avenues when considering the best sources to search criminal backgrounds and many are very time-consuming, unreliable and incomplete.

The best source to search criminal backgrounds quickly are new websites on the internet that have consolidated many of these sources, and some have accessibility to the items used in the PACER database. PACER-the database used by the FBI, is the most truly encompassing source, but it is not available to the general public, so it would not be a source you could use to search criminal backgrounds on your own.

Some sites charge a nominal fee, or require a subscription to their directories of databases, but it could be worth the expense when searching criminal backgrounds because of the time-savings and thoroughness of the results.

There are several good websites at affordable prices; many offer individual criminal background searches, some basic and some more detailed. Many of these websites get updates when changes are made to the databases by law enforcement and have the most up-to-date results on searching criminal backgrounds available to the general public for business or personal use.

Searching Online

For quick start sources to search criminal backgrounds search engines offer a excellent start by inputting the name or address, and maybe some information will come up, but it may not be complete. It’ll give you a general idea if the individual is a criminal IF you find something, but if you don’t, then you still don’t know if you’ve got a complete criminal background search or not.

Many states and counties have their own sites where you can search a criminal background, but others may not. If you know the past locations of where your subject has been, you’ll be able to search their criminal background directly, but you have to know all locations the person has lived, visited or worked for this to be considered an accurate source.

More Search Resources

The U.S. Fed. prison Database is another source to do search criminal backgrounds on inmates, and a limited archive of past inmates, parolees, and probationary criminals. If you know a person is in this class, you may be ready to search their criminal setting to obtain the info you need to make a hiring or personal call based on their record.

The road Patrol of each State has sources to search criminal backgrounds, but you must know all the places an individual has been to know where to hunt for their criminal background with this source.

The U.S. Department of Justice countrywide sex offenders Database needs convicted sex predators to be registered, but usually searching criminal background results do not list superb warrants and arrests until they become convictions. If an offender went on the run before the court date, they are presumed trusting until proved guilty and thus will probably not be noted on any databases, to avoid any future liabilities for defamation of character.

Being indicted for a drug conspiracy and federal crimes is a very grave affair. Hiring the services of the most experienced Los Angeles federal criminal lawyer that you can find is the most important factor in obtaining the most advantageous resolution of charges. You are in need of a federally experienced attorney whose pratice focuses on this type of case.

Federal criminal lawyers have expertise in bargaining with federal attorneys and negotiating the federal court system. The high level of experience with which the client’s defense is professionally and effectively presented challenges even the toughest federal prosecutors. They understand that a client’s freedom , future and sometimes very lives are at stake when facing serious federal crime charge.

You are in danger of losing you freedom, prior convictions or weapons charges make the situation even more dangerous.Your sentence could be increased by many years This makes it crucial that you obtain the services of an attorney with the knowledge and experience needed to make sure you serve no time at all.

Federal criminal charges often involve more complex cases which have the potential for harsh penalties. These cases are tried in federal court and are prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s office, which often has more time and resources than a state prosecutor. The level of experience, training and knowledge on the part of local district attorneys is nothing when compared to federal prosecutors.

Serious problems can be caused by things that seem of little importance to you. Federal drug charges can even be brought for the importation of steroids or other prescription drugs. The shock of being arrested for such an offense can forever damage your life. Now is when the services of the best and most aggressive Southern California federal offense lawyer are really needed.

Many things can make the outlook even worse. The severity of your sentence can be greatly effected if you have a weapon on your person when arrested. Sentencing guidelines could add on extra time to your sentence at the hearing. You need a bull dog of an attorney able to deal aggressively with federal prosecutors.

After being indicted on federal drug charges or drug conspiracy, you will most likely have many questions and concerns. A wise California federal drug charges attorney will do his best to explain to a you what you can expect during your trial. With aggression and passion, he can often find the flaws in the feds case that can often get your case dropped or a significantly smaller sentence.

Sometimes the evidence is deemed to be obtained through poor search and can be thrown out. To fight these charges you need the counsel of an expert lawyer who can attack the prosecution. Your attorney can help your case through arranging your cooperation as part of a plea bargaining deal with federal authorities.

What is at stake here is your future and freedom. Immediately engage the services of the top federal drug offense criminal attorneys in Los Angeles. Your chances of a favorable resolution are significantly better when you seek counsel as soon as there is any hint of a grand jury investigation or arrest.

The Federal Trade Commission and other affiliations have started identity theft prevention programs to try to make the public more mindful of techniques to protect their identity from the thieves who would like to use it for their own objectives. These programs offer identity protection tips so that people know what to go looking for to see if a thief has accessed their information as well as offering recommendation on what to do to forestall it from occuring in the 1st place.

Many of these identity theft prevention programs say that making the public conscious of the danger is the largest way to help to stop the difficulty from worsening.

Shredding Personal Papers

One tip in the identity theft prevention programs is to destroy any personal information before it is thrown into the trash can. This is particularly important for any documents which will have full deposit account or social security info on it. It’s also important for documents that have full credit card info on them,eg the credit card bills themselves.

Phone and household bills can also be a problem since the account number is mentioned on the bill as well as the home address and identity thieves can occasionally get away with using just that info to add a connection or transfer an account so they can use it for their own objectives.

Social Security Number

Yet another tip from identity theft prevention programs is to safeguard the social security card and social security number at any price. The social security card should be locked in a safe place where it will not be easily accessed by strangers. If there are sharers in the home, the card should be stored in a locked place at any time. It should never be carried in the wallet as it is too easy to rob it.

To Protect Yourself from Identity Theft, these prevention programs also alert not to give out the SSID number over the phone or Internet unless the individual has initiated the telephone call so they are sure that the business is genuine.

Secure Passwords

Lastly, the identity theft prevention programs warn not to use apparent passwords when creating accounts, especially bank accounts and other high security accounts. Many folks will use birth dates, their mother’s prenuptial name, or the last four digits of asocial security number and these are too simple for burglars to figure out, permitting them to access those accounts and steal cash from them.

As part of Norton Internet Security software, there’s a program called Identity Safe. You can set a password within Identity Safe and the program will remember all of your login information for internet sites that you use often. Make sure you use a very complicated password for Identity Safe – a mixture of letters, both uppercase and lowercase, and numbers – they should be irregular numbers and letters that have no meaning.

Identity Theft Protection Services

Of course, there’s only a certain amount that an individual can do to guard themselves. The best method is to use an Identity Theft Protection Company; they’re amazingly cheap but the rewards are that you’ll not become the following identity theft statistic. This is no joke, as an identity is thieved each two seconds in the USA; that’s over 15 million folks a year!

These days, nobody is safe from identity theft. It doesn’t matter what your age is, where you come from, your beliefs or sex. You can fall victim to this crime without difficulty, and it can also happen to your friends, family and coworkers. Nobody is impervious to the menace of identity theft. It can hit you anywhere and at any point in time, even if you have undertaken defensive action to prevent it from striking out at you.

The reality is that identity theft is one of the fastest mounting criminal offenses internationally, in the US in particular. A big cause of this is that new technologies have been put into the hands of crooks who can get unauthorized access to your most confidential information. They are able to use it for their own purposes without you even becoming aware that your private information has been stolen or compromised.

There are any number of disastrous consequences that can come from identity theft along with terrible {financial} loss, for instance emotional turmoil. You may even discover to your shame that your request for a loan or for a job has been rejected owing to your low credit score.

Even though it’s impossible to entirely defend yourself from being a casualty of identity theft, there are nonetheless several measures that you can adopt to make sure that the hazards are lowered.

Simple identity theft protection means that you never reveal your personal details, for example your credit card number, to anybody until their authenticity has been confirmed. Secondly, you must make it a habit to avoid carrying your social security number in your wallet or bag on a regular basis.

Identity theft has been escalating in recent years and this has given rise to various fears in the heads of almost everybody. A huge explanation for this is the present trend of individuals throughout the planet to buy merchandise online. A lot of online retailers may have unsecure sites, which can leave your private data exposed to hacking and theft by swindlers that prowl the internet seeking victims. As a result it’s in your best interests to avoid making purchases at websites that don’t have tight precautionary measures in place.

Anyone can make a mistake, and businesses and government departments are every bit as vulnerable to being a target of an identity theft scam. Credit card fraud is on the increase dramatically, and people are losing untold millions. Identity theft concerns everybody, and we all pay the price one way or another.

Identity theft is a definite threat to us all, effecting hundreds of people everyday across the globe. There are a number of insurance products used to cover people against ID theft, but this is not always necessary, as you can significantly reduce the risk by following a set of measures, most of which are built on common sense.

ID theft is a technique used by criminals allowing them to benefit financially through claiming they are you, for example taking out loans, applying for credit cards etc. all in your name.

One of the problems when attempting to tackle this type of fraud is that the are limited by resources, particularly when these criminals are working outside of the UK.

Doing all you can to avoid becoming a victim of ID theft is easier than you may think and being aware of the following points could save you a lot of grief.

Be sure to keep all important documents and financial related documents such as passports and bank statements in a safe place out of sight. These include official documents such as passports and driving licence documents, as well as financial documents such as bank and credit card statements, bank account details, insurance documents etc.

Frequently monitor your bank accounts and credit card statements to ensure there are no suspicious transactions. If possible, set up internet banking for all banking products as this will allow you to regularly check statements without having to wait for your monthly statements. Online banking is also very secure, with many banks now providing customers with card readers which generate pass codes that must be used when logging in to your account, or making a payment. If you do notice anything that looks suspicious, contact your bank or credit card provider immediately.

Buy a paper shredder. You can pick one up from £5 to £30 and you can use it to shred any official documents that you don’t need to keep. This includes bank statements, loan or credit card application forms and even junk mail containing any of your details i.e. name, address, telephone number etc. Simply throwing these documents away could result in them falling into the wrong hands.

Make sure you are aware of when your regular financial documents arrive, ensuring you are aware of anything out of the ordinary, for example you haven't received your credit card bill for 7 weeks.

At least once a year, apply for a copy of your credit file to check all current finance arrangements in your name, allowing you to spot anything unusual.

Never provide companies with sensitive information unless you are 100% certain that the company is legitimate. For example, you receive a call from somebody claiming to be your bank asking for details such as your full name, DOB and Mother's maiden name. These are types of information that fraudsters will want to get hold of, so be vigilant.

Never trust emails claiming to be your bank or Credit Card company. Some of these emails can look extremely convincing and the irony is that many of them claim to require your details to help tackle fraud. You can usually spot these emails as the URL that you are required to click may appear to be the official site, but on closer inspection you will see it is in fact close, by hovering your cursor over this link. You will then be re-directed to a spoof page that looks genuine but is actually used to steal your login details

When moving house, subscribe The Royal Mail’s redirection service. This will ensure all mail addressed to you ends up with you.

Check your bills as soon as they arrive in the post. If there's anything suspicious contact your bank or Credit Card company immediately.

There are a few main techniques employed by criminals to carry out ID theft. These include:

Bin Diving

Going through your bins searching for bills or other documents containing your personal information.

Skimming

Used to steal credit/debit card numbers using a special storage device. This can be avoided by keeping your card on you or in view when making payments.

Phishing

Claiming to be a legitimate financial institution to gain your trust then push you to reveal your personal information.

Changing Your Address

Diverting your bills, statements and other sensitive documents to another address by filling out a change of address form.

Old-Fashioned Stealing

Stealing wallets; mail etc. to get enough information about you.

Pretexting

Used to obtain personal information from a number of sources such as financial institutions, telephone companies, and other sources by impersonating you

Once your personal information has been stolen by an identity thief, they can use it for a number of different things.

Credit card fraud:

A new credit card can be applied for in your name. The card can then be used to get credit and all unpaid bills will appear on your credit report, damaging your credit history.

By changing your address, they could run up charges on your account but you will be unaware as you are not getting the bills. It could be some time before you notice anything unusual.

Phone or utilities fraud:

A new phone or wireless account could be opened in your name, or even utility services like electricity, water, or satellite television.

Bank fraud:

Counterfeit checks made with your details.

Bank accounts opened in your name.

Credit or debit card cloned giving them access to your accounts.

A loan taken out in your name.

Government documents fraud:

Used to get official ID cards such as a driving licence under your name but with their picture.

Use of your details to get government benefits.

Fraudulent tax return made using your information.

Other fraud:

Qualify for a job using your personal information

Rent a property in your name.

These days, most banks have intelligent anti-fraud systems that recognise any unusual activity on your card, for example you withdraw money from a cash point in the UK and later that day money is withdrawn from an ATM in Canada.

When taking out a credit card, you will probably find that you are offered some kind of anti-theft insurance to protect you against fraud. But the fact is that ID theft is heavily promoted and sometimes over exaggerated to help sell the product.

A spokesman from the UK's fraud Prevention Service - the CIFAS, has ID theft is still a relatively rare crime, but it is on the increase.

So as long as you’re cautious with who you give your personal information to, keeping it in a safe place, shred all unwanted documents containing your information, you should remain safe from fraud.

There are many of reasons that consumers ask for their credit scores, and when you are requesting a report in order to find out the status of your score before you make a major purchase, you’ll definitely want to know more about your Equifax credit score. Equifax is one of the three credit bureaus that you should be getting your score from (the other two are TransUnion and Experian), and once you are aware of your score, you will be able to take control of your credit and improve your financial standing.

First, you will need to now how to get your Equifax credit history. You can log onto www.equifax.com in order to get your score via email. When you get an online report, you’ll be able to log in at any time to check the status of your report, and you can even arrange to receive emails any time there are changes to your report. This will help you to better keep track of your report, and if you see suspicious items on your report, you can dispute them right away.

Another reason that you can request your Equifax credit score is to protect your identity. If your identity is being stolen, and someone is posing as you in order to open accounts that you have not authorized, you can monitor and stop these actions if you are getting the report help that you need often. The person committing the ID theft isn’t sure to continue checking the report, so when you’re inquiring about your status on a consistent basis, you’re able to work out if you became ‘obligated’ to pay bills that don’t belong to you. If this has happened while you are in the process of applying for a loan, you will have to request that your potential lenders obtain an additional copy of your credit report to determine if you are eligible for a loan.

If you know that you are planning on making major investments soon, or if you’re considering opening your own business, being aware of your Equifax credit score is very important. Not merely will you be ready to find out which items are on your report when you visit the Equifax com site, you may be ready to get tips from the site that may teach you the best paths to repay the debt that you owe. This way, when you are feeling you’re prepared to sign up for a loan to start your business or cover the price of the building rental or purchase, you’ll be well prepared, and should be on your way to building good finance practices for your company. Good luck!
